Gekko Pre-insulated Pipe has a range of both aboveground and underground factory insulated piping system manufactured under stringent quality control conditions.
It is suitable for air-conditioning chilled water piping systems, process piping system and domestic hot water piping system with media temperature ranging between -50 deg. C to +140 deg. C in any environmental conditions.
It offers a high efficiency thermal insulation coupled with the ultimate vapour barrier and weather protection. The extremely robust waterproof insulation system can safely support the weight of the pipe and its contents.
Gekko Pre-insulated Pipe can therefore be hung from its outer casing thus eliminating the use of cumbersome insulated supports which are usually the potential points of vapour ingress.
Gekko Pre-insulated Pipe is available in the casing of your choice utilizing any type of service pipe required.
The pre-insulated piping system has been widely used in the European countries since the 70’s and eventually followed by the USA. It is now one of the most preferred method of insulation in the world due to its superior properties and ease of installation.
Our neighboring countries such as Singapore and Malaysia have adopted the system since the 90’s and currently their chilled water pipe system is almost 100% pre-insulated.
Gekko Pre-insulated Pipe is manufactured from three basic components. A pressure tight casing, the required service pipe and rigid polyurethane foam. The service pipe is centralized within the outer casing and the resultant annular space between the casing and service pipe is machine filled with polyurethane foam. The foam expands and upon setting forms a dense homogeneous insulation around the pipe.
Low Thermal Conductivity and Coefficient of Expansion
Rigid polyurethane foam has the lowest thermal conductivity and coefficient of expansion of all known insulating materials (Tested to ASTM C 518). Thus help to save more energy compare to the commonly use elastomeric insulation.
Weather Resistance
The outer casing material is galvanized, stainless steel or high density polyethylene tubes which will withstand extreme climatic condition.
Ultimate Vapor Barrier
The pressure tight spiral-locked seam tube or high density polyethylene tube provides ultimate vapor barrier.
Good Sound Attenuation
Polyurethane foam provides very good damping properties. It reduces noise considerably.
Water Tightness
The pressure-tight locked seam tube or the high density polyethylene, homogeneous and seamless tube ensures water tightness.
Thermal Stability
Gekko Pre-insulated Pipe system can be used over a wide range of temperatures between - 50° C up to + 140° C.
Fire Behavior
Comply to Class O fire rating, in which having a Class 1 fire rating to BS 476: Part 7, 1997 (Surface Spread of Flame Test) and a Fire Propagation Index to BS 476 Part 6 (1989) test with values of I less than12 and i1 less than 6.
Mechanical Properties
With compressive strength up to 275 Kpa, the insulation coupled with the robust outer casing, Gekko Pre-insulated Pipe can hung directly on its casing.
Environment Friendly
The polyurethane foam utilizes CFC free blowing agent.
Factory pre-insulated, only 5-10% on site for joints and bends
Lower labour and installation cost, cut down installation time and enable early project completion.
Insulator Structure
Circumferential joints every 1-2m interval and long longitudinal joint
Homogeneous, no joint
No joint means no chance of water vapour ingress which cause condensation, therefore cut down unforeseen damages/problems.
Quality Control
Depend on individual installer’s skill at site
Consistent quality control in factory
Peace of mind for a problem free insulation system.
Durability
Soft and easily damage, not weather proof
Tough and durable casing, can be used in both indoor/outdoor condition
Cut down damages at site, long lasting.
Maintenance
Need regular checking and maintenance
Maintenance free
Cut down overall system maintenance cost.
Pipe Support
Need special pipe support at the specified interval
Pipe can be supported directly on casing
Fast and easy installation, cut down cost on special support.
Thermal Conductivity (K Value)
0.037 W/mK
0.022 W/mK
Lower K value means less energy loss through the insulation, cut down energy cost.
Chiller will work less to maintain a constant temperature, thus prolong the machine life cycle.

COMPARISON BETWEEN GEKKO PRE-INSULATED PIPE AND ELASTOMERIC INSULATION
Gekko Pre-insulated Pipe can reduce the energy loss through the pipe insulation by up to 40% as compare to the conventional elastomeric foam insulation. The following chart shown a clear comparison of the heat gained in the fluid by using the 2 types of insulation respectively.
Pre-insulated pipe cut down site installation time and provides reliable workmanship and quality.
Do I have any advantages or benefits in using Gekko Pre-insulated Pipe?
There are many advantages for using Gekko pipe, they are namely energy saving, durable, maintenance free, homogeneous insulation structure, etc.
Technically, what is the advantage over the conventional elastomeric insulation?
Gekko Pre-insulated Pipe has lower thermal conductivity (K-value) in which less energy will be lost and in turn saving on energy cost.
Does it cost more than the conventional insulation?
No, only the initial cost is higher. However, there is much saving on running cost, repair and maintenance cost in which such savings will justify the initial cost.
Do you guarantee the pipe insulation?
Yes, Gekko guarantee our Pre-insulated Pipe against any condensation (due to factory defect) for a period of 10years.
Does it get damaged easily?
No, the insulation is encased in a robust spiral tube or HDPE casing.
Is it easy to install?
Yes, special insulated support is not needed and Gekko Pre-insulated Pipe can be hung or supported directly on its casing.
Is the installation method similar to that of the elastomeric insulation?
No, Gekko Pre-insulated pipe is factory insulated and the site foaming insulation constitutes only 5% of the whole piping system. Whereas, the elastomeric insulation has to be 100% installed at site.
How do I join the Pre-insulated Pipe?
The pipe shall be joined in the usual way, either by welded or threaded.
How do I insulate the joints after the pipe have been welded?
Site foaming and jacketing will be done by our trained personnel.
Where can I buy Gekko Pre-insulated Pipe?
Currently, you can order directly from our factory, please contact our sales office for more information and request for a quotation.
Is it possible to change into Gekko insulation, if my building is currently using the conventional pipe insulation?
Yes, we can perform site foaming insulation for your pipe system without dismantling any pipe.
Do I need to have periodic maintenance?
No, Gekko Pre-insulated Pipe system is maintenance free.
